LET'S START AT THE BEGINNING
WHY DO YOU MANUFACTURE IN AUSTRALIA WHEN YOU COULD DO IT ABROAD FOR CHEAPER?
At Budgy Smuggler, we focus on the quality of a garment's construction, not its price.
Australia has a long and proud tradition of swimwear design and production. It is the birthplace of Speedo-style swimwear (now Budgy Smuggler :) ). We are proud to continue this tradition. We have invested heavily in our production, which allows us to be a world leader.
Plus, when you put on a pair of smugglers/smugglettes, we want you to feel like you're putting on a real piece of Australia, made with love.
BUDGY SMUGGLER HAS A NUMBER OF DESIGNS MADE BY AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL ARTISTS, HOW DID THIS COME ABOUT?
Budgy Smuggler has a long and close relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, who were among the earliest adopters of Budgy Smuggler, particularly professional athletes and footballers.
It's a community we love and are fiercely loyal to. First Australians also create some of the most incredible works of art in the world.
We are honored to be able to share some of these creations through our swimwear. It is important to note that the artists retain ownership of their works, and a royalty on each sale is paid to the artists and/or a designated charity.
We note that Budgy Smuggler is on the lands of the Guringai people and we fully respect the elders, past, present and future.
WHERE ARE BUDGY SMUGGLER MADE?
Our Australian office is based in Brookvale, Sydney and we have our factory just up the road - from printing to cutting and sewing, everything is in Sydney.
WHERE DO THE IDEAS FOR THE DESIGNS COME FROM?
Our designers are talented, but... we often come up with our designs when we're joking around late at the bar.
IS IT FAIR THAT YOU TAKE THE CREDIT?
While we think it's unfair to take all the credit for the accumulation of world titles, rugby trophies and Olympic gold medals, we're happy to do so.
Budgys are also practical because they are comfortable, keep everything in place, and are less likely to fall off during a tackle.
Professional athletes, especially rugby players, were early adopters, as they typically go from the shower to the ice bath after a game... and no one likes to be naked in an ice bath.
Honestly, it's a real honor to be part of dressing rooms at all levels, from street and field rugby to cricket, world champions, Olympic champions, and national premierships. Part of the smuggling is the camaraderie that develops in these teams, both in and out of the dressing room. We're thrilled to be a part of it.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR BUDGY SMUGGLER?
Good question. We're thinking about it as we go, so if you have any great ideas, send them to contact@budgysmuggler.fr
We want to free thighs worldwide.
At the moment we are enjoying expanding our non-swim range with pajamas, activewear, t-shirts and fleeces, to name a few.
Thank you for making it this far down this page. That's all. For now.
